Well do a double dip on the Wreck of the Eagle. This means we will moor up to a ball for two dives which will give those divers with technical certifications the ability to do extended time on the wreck. If you do not have technical certifications then you can do one dive, come back aboard for a minimum of 45 min surface interval, then dive the wreck again.
Built in Holland in 1962, this freighter was acquired and sunk by the Florida Keys Artificial Reef Association in 1985. She lies outside the reef on a flat sandy bottom six miles off Lower Matecumbe Key.
The Eagle lies on her starboard side in 110 feet of water three miles northeast of Alligator Reef Light. On the night of December 19, 1985, while waiting to be sunk as an artificial reef next to the Alexander Barge, the Eagle broke from her moorings. Her port anchor was dropped to prevent further drifting in the current and she was sunk at that spot.
NOTE: You must be certified Advanced Open Water diver or better to dive this wreck or have a logged 3 dives down to 80' in the last 6 months.
